Nothing makes me happier than climbing over a carbon belt driven bike in the quiet dawn of early Spring. Silent, effortless (o.k. – current fitness and 10 pounds lost make me feel good – but I am a LONG way from fit). Climbed up through the Portal of Fitness (this is actually just a comical access point that consists of riding down my friends’ stairs and across his back deck into the woods).
The trails are NOT clear. Lots of carrying and post-holing. But – so worth it. The climb up the back of Flagstaff is always a thrill and the ground is the slow side of tacky. But, I got some 25 miles and a few thousand feet in before the crack of reality. And that’s a great day.
