One of 2020's most unique electric motorcycles arrives in March. Meet the Ösa, a belt-driven workhorse from Swedish brand Cake that pushes the boundaries of sustainability and design for electric two-wheelers.

It’s no exaggeration to say no other electric motorcycle looks like the Ösa from Cake. Inspired by the workbench and Cake’s desire to create a practical and environmentally friendly mode of transport, the bike is designed for multi-functionality. The gray bar that extends beneath the seat allows users to configure the Ösa in countless ways by attaching baskets, bags, tools and carriers.

It can be set up to carry children or groceries, tools and construction supplies, and even skis and surfboards. The powerful battery includes multiple outlets that allow users to run power tools or other electrical equipment.  “It’s all about off-the-grid independence,” says Stefan Ytterborn, founder and CEO of Cake.

Cake, which previewed the Ösa at the Milan motorcycle show last fall, is offering the electric moto in two models: the Ösa+ has a top speed of 63 mph (100 km/h), while the Ösa Lite is designed to be registered as a scooter, with a top speed of 30 mph in the United States or 45 km/h in Europe. Both come standard with the Gates Carbon Drive belt system for low-maintenance simplicity and durability. Available for pre-order now, both models are set to arrive in March.

Cake has also partnered with Gates to offer carbon belt drives as an option on its two other electric motorcycles, the Kalk OR and Kalk& models.

“Our motto is to ‘Explore with Respect,’ and the Gates belt drive system helps us get one step closer to honoring this sentiment as it is quiet, needs no grease, never rusts or stretches,” says Ytterborn. “It is an ideal drivetrain for off-grid adventures that require lightweight and durable components.”

The Ösa also illustrates how Gates is partnering with leading innovators in the personal mobility space to create advanced drivetrain solutions. Visit ridecake.com to order online or find a dealer. Yes, have your Cake and ride it, too.
