A review of Gates products on display at the first CABDA show of 2021
CABDA’s Midwest show was held from on September 15th and 16th, 2021 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center. On display were three bikes equipped with Gates Carbon Drive, showcasing how Gates belt drive can be used in a variety of applications. Marc Seemann hosted a training session on the basics of selling and servicing belt drive models, as well as discussing Pinion’s groundbreaking gearboxes.
Pretty bikes all in a row. L-R: Nicolai G13 GPI – a full suspension, top-of-the-line electric mountain bike; Trek District 4 – a commuter bike with a sporty flavor; and the Marin Presidio 3, a commuter bike that’s also good for a weekend jaunt in the countryside.
Another highlight of the show was the Harley-Davidson/Serial 1 RUSH/CTY SPEED, which was on display at Serial 1’s booth.
Serial 1 is a sub-brand of Harley-Davidson, representing the motorcycle icon’s efforts to diversify their product offerings. The RUSH CTY/SPEED is Serial 1’s flagship model, and is geared towards commuters. This premium ebike has electrically assisted pedaling up to 28 mph (45 kph) and a host of amenities like a glove box and integrated fenders and racks. It comes with a 706 Wh removable battery, Enviolo CVT, and a Brose TF Mag motor. The whole operation runs smoothly thanks to a Gates Carbon Belt drive.
Marc Seemann hosted a training session called Belt Drive and Pinion Gearbox Basics. The session outlined the advantages of Carbon Drive, as well as the basics of selling and maintaining bikes equipped with Gates Carbon Drive. Pinion’s groundbreaking gearboxes were also discussed, as Gates is the official distributor of Pinion in North America.
